Coach Catellier decided to pursue his passion for coaching with the Calgary Colts in 2017 as a DB coach before taking on an expanded role as a co-defensive coordinator. Coach Catellier returned to the Colts in 2018, but is moving on to be the Co-DC with the Westshore Rebels.
With his disciplined but personal approach to coaching, Catellier trains his defensive backs to be the smartest, loudest players on the field. With communication, vision, preparation, and technique; his DBs will fearlessly attack every play and every challenge with the intensity of players far more mature and experienced. They will gain an understanding for why the offence acts the way they do, and the ability to defend in both man to man and zone situations. An expert in press coverage as a player, he will teach DB’s how to use the hands and positioning to their advantage. His football instincts help set his players up for success, while his proactive, caring approach has won over many of the players.
Coach Catellier began his playing career with the Cochrane Lions Bantam team, named rookie of the year. He then played 3 seasons at St. Francis High School, was named best DB in his senior year (2012) and was named to the Div. 1 Calgary All-Star Team. After signing and playing with the University of Alberta out of high school, he moved on to play two seasons with Darcy Park and the Edmonton Wildcats. He was named a PFC all-star in 2014 after moving from field half to boundary corner. He then made a stop with the Manitoba Bisons, staying on their practice roster due to an injury. Deciding to finish his career on a high, he joined Matthew “Snoop” Blokker and the Calgary Colts for the 2016 season, where he was named CJFL All-Canadian and received an invitation to a CFL regional combine before ultimately retiring due to injuries.
Coach Cat has completed schooling at University of Alberta and the University of Manitoba while playing football. He has also worked in a marketing position with Molson and been a Project Manager with a big construction company in Western Canada. His business background is a big help to the growth of the Peak School of Football.
“A huge welcome goes out to the newest member of the Golden Bears Football coaching staff. Ryan Brower joins us as both a receivers coach and as our new camp coordinator. Ryan will bring great energy and enthusiasm to a young and talented receiving group. His expertise in running high level camps is also extensive. The architect of the Peak School of Football, Ryan will bring all of the valuable lessons he has learned in building that program from the ground up. Get ready for the Golden Bears Camp system to grow in both programming options and quality under Ryan’s guidance!”
